Our goal at u.school is to Grow Self-Directed Learners. We want students who graduate from u.school to have agency over the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How of their learning. In doing so we believe that they will be prepared for life to succeed in a constantly changing world.
To Grow Self-Directed Learners we want to stay small (we call ourselves a Micro School), we want students and families to be in charge (we are a democratic school), we want students to be active and engaged in authentic learning, and we want students to be able to Tell Their Story (our students graduate with a portfolio full of Evidence of Learning).
Even though becoming a self-directed learner turns out to be a lot harder than following a traditional path, we believe that any student can succeed at u.school. We are participating in Give Ozarks to raise money for our Tuition Assistance pool. Last year tuition income was able to help reduce tuition for 40% of our students. But there were still students who weren't able to join us at u.school because of the expense.
Our goal is to raise enough through Give Ozarks to support at least 1 to 2 new students with financial need.
