Help Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary raise $12,000 to help us replace the barb wire fencing around our pastures with horse friendly fencing.
WHO WE ARE? Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary (MFMN), located in Linn Creek, MO, is a not for profit, 501c3, that is operated entirely by volunteers who work tirelessly to put an end to equine cruelty and neglect. MFMN was established as a non-profit animal welfare organization in 2011 when Connie Hendrix and Donna Ogle, who had been rescuing and sheltering horses using their own funds, realized that they needed public support in order to continue to help reduce the suffering of the ever increasing number of neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses. Since 2011, the sanctuary has sheltered more than 380 horses and found approved homes for over 185 horses that have been adopted.
OUR PROJECT - The fencing on pasture land that was recently acquired has 3 wire fencing with a top barb wire. The barb wire could potentially injure a horse, and needs to be replaced with fencing more suitable for horses. Also, areas of the fence have been overgrown with brush and other vegetation that needs to be removed and the fence and posts replaced or repaired. The issues with the fencing were cited by Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) during their site visit, as requiring remediation within the next 2 years to maintain our GFAS accreditation.
WHAT WE DO – MFMN provides three primary services, horse rescue and rehabilitation, sanctuary for elderly or disabled horses that are not adoptable, and adoptions to an approved home for horses that are sound and are rideable or can be trained. These programs are critical to helping abused, neglected and unwanted horses. MFMN does not discriminate based on age, breed, health or ride-ability of the horses it accepts, but rather, helps all to live a good life, or sometimes pass away with dignity.
